Mommy's Happy Birthday

Yesterday was my birthday. I am 39. Next year is the big 4-0! WooHoo!! Well, when explaining to the little man that it was Mommy's birthday, being 4, he doesn't understand that it is not his birthday again. Nana (my mom) wanted to get me a cake and asked MawMaw (mother-in-law) to go pick one up on the way home from church. Casey told Nana that is was "mine and Mommy's birthday" after a little arguing and an affirmation from me, Nana relented and said he could share.

MawMaw said he looked at every cake in the cooler twice. He was going to pick out the cake. He finally decided on a yellow cake with white icing that had "Happy Birthday" written in green with purple flowers.

My little man, taking care of Mommy! Love you, Son!

Little Man has been Sick

Life is no fun when you have a sick child. It doesn't matter if it is just a cold, or heaven forbid, something much more serious. Casey has been sick this week. He just isn't himself. He got to stay home with Mommy Tuesday, Nana Wednesday, and Mommy and Nana Thursday. He had his first blood work incident on Thursday. We have had the finger prick thing done many times and he has always been a trooper. Today was no exception! He sat in Mommy's lap and was a big boy. He didn't squirm or scream or even cringe. He watched the whole time and just a few tears rolled out of his eyes.....Mom was OK until the nurse said he was crying....then I shed a few tears (as I am doing now remembering!) The nurses were all so impressed with him! It made me so proud! He got a special present of some candy AND a popsicle!

He has always been good about doctor visits and taking medicine, etc. He is truly my little trooper! Remember, Mommy loves you best!

New Year's Resolutions

As the mom of a 4 year old, it is sometimes hard to keep the resolutions I make each year....

Maybe this year will be different! So, here goes:

In 2009, I resolve to:
1. Pay off some debt! Very important to our FAMILY to get some of those bills paid off!
2. Find myself at church on Sundays and Wednesdays more often, MUCH more often than I did in 2008. This is also very important for my family and me. Casey loves to go to Bible class and I am hindering his walk with Christ by not making sure he is there. It is my responsibility not only as his mother but as a Christian!
3. Lose some weight! I make this one every year, maybe this year will be different. I need to do this so that all those sneaky diseases don't catch up to my overweight self! I have somehow avoided high blood pressure that not only runs in my family but usually goes right along with being overweight. This I also need to do for my family! So that I will be able to run and play with Casey and be around HEALTHY for a very long time!

I think three resolutions are enough! These are biggies for me. I hope to be able to say I have kept up with these at the end of this year!

That's all for now! Happy 2009!!!

Christmas Day, 2008

Today is Christmas Day. He is finally asleep! Last night he was so excited because Santa was going to come! It took forever to get him to sleep. We sang songs, talked about the birth of Jesus, and hid under the covers from Santa. Finally, around 11pm, he went to sleep. Dad and I made our Santa preparations and were in bed by midnight. Around 6:30am, he awoke. Did Santa come? I told him we would have to go check! We went into the living room and discovered that yes, indeed, Santa had been there! Stockings were full and most of all, the 'pipe truck' and lincoln logs with a train were there! He has played all day long. We have built tracks and tunnels, fixed the pipe truck so the pipes won't fall off, built a pipeline several times and finally crashed around 9pm this evening! A busy day for a busy boy! Merry Christmas, my son! Mommy loves you!

Today is his Birthday

Well, today my little boy, Casey, turned 4. He is all about John Deere tractors and 'heavy equipanent' (in Casey speak). This morning, when he woke up, I sang 'Happy Birthday' to him and he looked up and smiled and said, "today am I 4 in December?" I responded, "Yes, Baby, you are 4 in December!" He looked himself up and down and said, " I still little!"

This has been an ongoing source of much confusion for my son. He has been saying for several weeks that he does not want to get big, he wants to stay little. He thought because he was turning 4, he would automatically get 'bigger' in size. I think he was very much relieved when he woke up, was 4, and did not get 'bigger.'

It seems like just yesterday that I was in the hospital holding my little 11 pound baby in my arms shortly after giving birth via c-section. He has grown up to be a skinny little 43 inch tall 4 year old. He loves Wrangler blue jeans ("like my Daddy") and boots. As my mother-in-law predicted, I really don't remember life without Casey.

He was born on a cold, wet December afternoon. We knew from the first ultrasound that he was probably going to be a big baby. My OB did an ultrasound on Dec. 15 and the computer could not calculate the numbers to determine a weight. The doctor just told me that he would be on call that weekend if I went into labor or just decided it was time. I went back to the doctor on Monday, Dec. 20 and he told me he was surprised he did not see me over the weekend and we would induce on Tuesday. I called my husband, Kenneth, in tears and let him know he needed to be off the rest of the week.

We went to the hospital early Tuesday morning and I was admitted and given a room in the labor/delivery section. I was put on the drip to induce labor but 8 hours later, I had never had the first labor pain. The doc came in around 3 and said we would do a c-section in just a bit. I was prepped and given an epidural and at 4:31pm, James Casey was born!

So, Happy Birthday, my son! Mommy loves you best!
